What is an antenna?
Antennas receive and transmit radio waves.
We are constantly surrounded by various types of radio waves. Although we cannot see them, they are an indispensable part of our daily lives. As shown below, mobile phones and radios are representative devices that use radio waves.
- In Japan, antennas were called "kuchusen" (meaning aerial wire) till the word "antenna" deriving from English became widely used. The original meaning of the English word "antenna" is the feeler or tactile organ of insects.
